Sustainably Chic July
July is in full swing and if your weather is anything like our in NYC, then you’re well aware that the sky orb is very angry right now. If it feels hotter than ever out, this isn’t your imagination. Unfortunately we just had the hottest June on record and are set to have the hottest July as well. Global Warming is not a future crisis, it is a crisis right now. So for this Sustainably Chic we’re looking at cute outfits that beat the heat while also working against the cause of that heat by being sustainable.
The Bag: Michelle
The bag for outfit one is our new Michelle vegan leather handbag. The classy look and spacious interior are the perfect match for running around a hot city in your favorite sundress, especially with the optional strap. We picked the faux alligator look for an even more eye-turning look. Pair with your favorite Rose for a beautiful summer night.
The Outfit
As promised, we start with a sundress, and what better sundress than something absolutely gorgeous by Reformation? Of course the best thing about Reformation dresses is that they are as sustainable as they are beautiful. To go with the black bag, we’ve added a black fair-trade large brim hat and black vegan sandals by Janice Alone and Beyond-Skin respectively, to give a classic black on white look. We completed the ensemble with a handcrafted brass bracelet and matching earrings made by Kenyan artisans partnered with Soko.
Dress: Reformation Brielle Dress
Shoes: Beyond Skin Macy Black Faux Snake Sandals
Hat: Janessa Leone Black Straw Bowler
Jewelry: ShopSoko Eris Stacking Rings and Double Bar Bracelet
Bag 2:
For our second bag we’ve decided on a more artisan-hip look with the Boho tan. The unique interior clasp design allows this bag to retain its shape while still giving off the “devel-may-care” attitude so associated with the bohemian lifestyle. 100% Upcycled and 100% vegan, you can be sure that this bag is good for the planet as you rock it around town.
Outfit 2
To go with Boho vibes that hopefully be chill enough to deal with the heat, we’re starting with a super fun baggy shirt from one of our favorite Upcyclers, Tonle that comes complete with a hand painted Rothko inspired design. Add in one of Levi’s surprisingly sustainable and always fantastic jean shorts, an upcycled baseball cap from Topiku, and some heel sandals from Everlane for that extra bit of cute, and you’ve got yourself an outfit. For that extra dash of upcycled to make that light blue pop, we found some bangles and earrings over at Hipcycle made out of old Bombay Sapphire bottles of all things.
Shirt: Tonle Keang Tong
Shorts: Levi Mid Length Shorts
Shoes: Everlane Double-Strap Block Heel
Hat: Topiku Bungah
Jewelry: Hipcycle Bombay Sapphire Earrings and Bangles
