Sustainably Chic: Silk and Sultry
Welcome to Sustianably Chic, a series where we put fashionable outfits together based on entirely sustainable and eco-friendly brands. This week we’re featuring one of nature's finest super-materials. Silk is hypoallergenic, renewable, durable, and doesn’t require many pesticides or fertilizers to grow the mulberry trees, making silk easily one of the most sustainable textiles on the market. The only downside is that silk is definitely not vegan, so while we included many animal-free products in this list, we encourage our vegan readers to check out last week’s 100% vegan fashion article. For the rest of us, here’s our article on styling silk sustainably, enjoy.
Bag 1: Michelle Vegan Alligator Leather
First up is our signature handbag. Combining femme elegance with modern power executive vibes, this bag is perfect for carrying around everyday or for pairing with something classy, which is what we’re going to be doing today.
Outfit 1
For our outfit, we started with a gorgeous silk black skirt. Slim fit and flattering, this luxurious skirt will add a luxurious look to any outfit no matter how you dress it. We’ve added a always beloved one shoulder top to match the feel of the shirt, and finished the look off with some nice cheetah print heels.
Skirt: Eileen Fisher Silk Double Crepe Bias Skirt
Shoe: Matisse Footwear Nico
Bag 2: Boho Forest Green Velvet
Next up we have something in velvet, the only texture as luscious as silk in our opinion. The boho is an easy to carry and easy to style bag with an inner clip that helps retain its shape. The deep green color adds a touch of luxury and an early Christmas vibe.
Outfit 2
Nothing feels better than a nice silk blouse. This top from Amour Vert is a simple V-neck design with just enough of a flair around the shoulders that you can dress it up as well as down. We’ve paired it with Egyptian cotton pants, a red fleece coat, and some gorgeous Bhava Studio booties.
Shirt: Amour Vert Jagna Blouse
Pants: Kotn Culotte Pants
Coat: Indigenous Organic Cotton Fleece Zip Coat
Heel: Bhava Studio Paris Lace Up Booties
Looking for a way to take care of your new silks? Don't rust off to the dry-cleaners just yet, and try the Laundress instead.
